http://www.scotland.gov.uk/News/Release ... 1/23124303It certainly makes a lot of sense to use engineering solutions to resolve road issues. The A9 is a long road - some 130 miles between Perth and Inverness, but it really starts at Dunblane and ends at Thurso some 244 miles in all. The main section is the Perth to Inverness and it has various section of DC already. Some say that this is it's downfall as people become confused to recall whether it is DC or Single carriageway and make mistakes. Various repeater signs, and road markings all help to act as reminders though.
When accidents occur it can be from frustration and inattention, resulting in poor decisions. I have certainly seen some appalling overtakes where they were lucky not to have had an accident, and those were from frustration, and/or the inability to overtake well.
It is a demanding road that needs a confident driver (rider) to ensure the best decisions are made to enable all vehicle manoeuvres.
I am confident that people are loosing essential driver (rider) skills, due to the obsessive nature strict speed limit compliance has had. So when drivers are asked to think and to make good judgements, they perform less than their best, partly from little practice and partly from the change in ability. One of the many bad side effects to the Speed Camera Industry.
