On the letter page there are two contrasting letters:

TIME TO ENFORCE SPEED LIMIT

Once again the Manchester Evening News has highlighted the serious problem of speeding buses throughout Manchester City Centre - putting lives at risk.

With so many different bus companies fighting the bus wars to keep afloat, is it any wonder we dice with death each day dodging thse speeding buses

no cars - they frown on cars - way of life to come... run over by a bus then!

With the city centre having some of the worse designed junctions in the country ( yup - agree - not nice how many more inncocents will be killed by these buses ?

Not cars then? What a refreshin' change

Thanks to the "M.E.N - we can campaign for speed cams on all major routes to force all vehicles especially these buses to stik to the speed limit! It mus be enforced correctly and appropriate action tken against these drivers - not just bus drivers - who flout the traffic laws!

I see his point about the bus drivers... I've been on a Manchester bus...fastest journey I've ever made in the town centre too - faster than the taxi - but to target the nice guys too... no Phil Burke of Manchester... that ain't playin' the game... Besides - with Park N Ride - there will only be buses to run you over... but never mind - at least you can sit in a brightly lit shelter miles from the actual bus stop !

Second letter

PEDESTRIAN WRITES:

I f I rememebr correctly, the junction of Cross Street, Crporation Street and Market Street where 26 people were hurt over past three years has set of traffic lights - which include pedestrian signals.

I presume you are going to include in your road safety campaign "jay walkers" who think the pretty lights are the leftovers from the Christmas decorations.

Tell them to take the mbile phones out of their ears and look both ways before they step off the kerb, preferably when the littl man is coloured green. It's quite simple really!
