Actually they arent useless!
But they only have fairly specific uses and are nowhere near as versitile as the "traditional" lightbulbs they are meant to replace.

#1 I have recently bought some special CFL's to replace down lighters in my Mums downstairs Loo. Good points! They actually produce a good light, even the colour is good.( No really, the light is
really nice!) Bad points! They take TWO FREAKING MINUITS to get up to brightness. And yes, I mean FULL 120 second minuits! for the first minuit (And yes that is a 60 second one too) you might as well use a torch! since this is a loo one is unlikly to want to be in there for much more than two minuits anyway so on this count this is a MASSIVE FAIL!
#2 My own living room. I have recently found dimmable lights (Since I have a dimmer) and they actually work quite well. But.... why so dim??? I used to use 150/200watt lightbulbs because I NEED THE LIGHT! (Large Georgeon room with east facing windows) I used to light it well with a single 200 watt light bulb. I could rewire to have multiple bulbs but why should I have to? Why dont the CFL manufacturers produce "Equivilant" bulbs for 150/200W fittings???
