Asda announces petrol price cut

Supermarket Asda has sparked a possible fuel price war by announcing a 2p-a-litre reduction in the cost of its petrol.

To take effect from Thursday, the cut will take Asda petrol prices down to 115.9p a litre, while its diesel will drop 1p to 118.9p a litre…

Tesco on my commute has been static for several weeks and has just gone down a penny.

Don't know if this is nationwide ,but over the past few years I've noticed that Tesco tends to price fuel in line with local price( or 1/2p lower) -Tesco Rugby being higher ,followed by Tesco Bedworth and lowest of all Tesco Ricoh .Sainsbury are similar, but a bit more consistant, but Asda tends to set one price nationally( least ways from what I've seen) .Doing a quick petrolprices.com ,this is the result today and curiously enough just up the road in Tamworth prices seem to be about 1p a litre lower .( possibly something to do with the refinery)

Tesco hasn't been the least expensive around here for a number of years. Asda and Waitrose are consistently less expensive. Shell is normally there or thereabouts too.

Some clown from some university was on 5Live this afternoon saying that fuel for private transport should be 150p/litre and commercial uses use rebate fuel. What he forgot is that the UK economy is based on consumer spending and if consumers have less to spend, there is less need for commercial vehicles.

On a side issue. If our shiny new government introduces a fuel stabiliser, at what price will it be stabilised and will that mean all forecourts will be the same price?

AIUI it will be a duty stabiliser, not a retail price stabiliser. And I can't see how they can do it when the oil price is so volatile.

Tamworth is always cheaper.If you are near Tamworth, always fill up at ASDA (just off the A5), cos it always cheaper .
I very rarely buy fuel from anywhere else, unless I can't avoid it.

Just had a look at mileages from petrolprices .com - only a few more miles for me than Asda Coventry - one I normally use when I'm in that area - possibly don't make much profit on a tank ,but the less the profiteers here make ,happier I am . Seems to have been a 122.9 cartel locally for past few weeks .
