As you guys may all know, I am in my first years insurance so it doesn't leave me as much money over as I would like. When I signed upto SafeSpeed I did not have this financial drain. I am unable to pay for membership this year so please could someone take away the membership badge as I feel guilty wearing it while not paying for it :D Thanks.

Insurance for youngsters (I'm assuming you're young if it's affecting you badly) is just stupid these days.

It always used to be that it was cheapest for youngsters to get small, low powered cars, eg. 1.1 Novas (now Corsas) and the like, but it seems these days because there are so many 17 yr old nobheads driving them, it's cheaper for a 17yr old to get insured on a 1.8 Mondeo than a 1.1 Corsa.

Might be something worth looking into, especially as Mondeos are dirt cheap

Insurance companies do seem to have difficulty separating the driver statistics from the vehicle statistics. Their argument seems to go "There are lots of accidents involving the Speedine X17 therefore everyone who drives that model is a bad risk. You have driven one for 25 years without an accident but you remain a bad risk"

What is even weirder is the way you can reduce the insurance by adding your wife to a policy.

"Hi, I am going to do 4500 miles in my Imprevo VII how much will that cost?"
"That will be £xxx sir"
"OK, sounds that expensive so what if my wife does a few miles as well, say 5000 total?"
"That will be 0.9 x £xxx sir"
"Excellent, so I will drive it just as much as I was going to anyway, but now my wife will drive a few extra miles in it so there is much less risk of the car deciding to crash itself obviously."

Flynn, you may think the price of insurance is way too high, however when I was your age there is no way I could afford to even buy and run a car let alone pay for insurance so maybe things are not so bad nowadays. :)

I lowered my insurance premium by adding 'commuting' to 'social, domestic and pleasure'.

:?

Likewise -I had one bright spark suggest that Mrs B be added to my policy "to bring the pricedown " .EH,but she hasn't got even a provisional ,not had one for about 29 years .
EXIT stage left one not so smart young plonker .
