Decided to put into chat section

CW article looks at producing tomorrow's sporting stars.

OK .. so you find your kid has whatever talent. You encourage this development. My kids have all been different .. but I have encouraged them to follow their hearts and instincts.

But CW has some golden rules for parents.. and whilst I agree I have a duty to encourage and motivate my children to achieve their dreams .. make their dream careers an achievable reality if they prove that is their aim in life. . I disagree about "being pushy as a parent". I want my kids to enjoy their childhood which lasts until they attend the secondary school. Before I know where I am.. they are on A levels :roll:

I encourage all my children. as do the entire familes with their own broods.

Yes .. I support them .. and I do not have a talent . but the Mad cats do.. their son Nick is a fencing prodigy. He wants to get his career started .. and then work on 2012 inclusion. His choice. As a kinsman he happens to respect, :lol: :shock: I personally advised him to go for it this time and use as his gap year. .. But his decision. He chose setting out his career path first and indulge later..

But the Mad Cat's feisty and rebellious second son ..has acclaimed talent all the same. But he would not have found this skill .. had they not sent him to a school which offered this as an "extra-curricular" :wink: In a way .. they reckon it disciplined hm .. and they supported his sport because they saw it as a means of reining him in tighter. The Mad Cats? I would say from my personal knowledge of them that they are no fools.. despite their fun and games. :wink;

CW says that parents must offer support and

Quote:
even enjoy driving them to and from events

Errrrr./. we ENJOY DRIVING and I wil remind that D~CHRIS HOY OWNS AND DRIVES A BMW 4X 4 : :P :P

I agree we must learn to lose well.. losing? Q Split seconds here :roll;

Look .. some of the advice is sound enough.. but I do think a child should enjoy a childhood .. which seems to end in a blur when they attend the secondary school :roll: :popcorn:

Nurture.. encourage.. support. motivate.. but keep childhood values intact.

Being a child .. learning as a child ... being allowed to be that child .. by age 7 you are supposed to have some inkling as to their leanings. :wink: By age 14 .. you have a more concrete inkling to go on..

As a parent .. I will encourage and motivate accordingly. I am never pushy as this might undermine trust and enthusiasm. My kids are normal .. have two on a firm career path .. moving onwards and upwards and a younger pair whom I am enocuraging to their own potentials.

I can only encourage and nurture. How they use this opportunity given to them is their own choice. :? :? :?

I can only hope they accept the parental supports .. apply their own effort .. and whatever the result .. make sure they know they still have love and support from their parents..
