Whose replaced Alan Bond, Ross?
Unfortunately we don't have enough rogues to cover that one...
I am not really a cricket fan but I have to say that there were several incredible sections of the series. The first I saw was when we won the second test, if I remember correctly, even though EVERYONE said it was impossible. England only had to hang in for less than 1 day, with a whole 10 wickets, to force the draw and we bowled them out - I was riveted to the last 2-3 hours from when I got home from work.
Then Shane Warne got his 700th test wicket in the 4th test and then his 1000th first class wicket (test and one day) in the 5th test.
Gilly got the 2nd fastest test century in the history of cricket in the 4th test - absolutely marvellous to watch.
Shane Warne got 71 in the first innings of the 5th test as part of a very wagging tail - mostly in 4's and 6's - more marvellous viewing.
A couple of fabulous run outs - one by England and one by the Aussies and an amazing stumping in the 5th test.
The umpires seemed fair - they disallowed just about as many appeals for both sides.
It was a sad day to see then end for 3 of our best players.
Shane Warne would have to be the most significant player in world cricket over the last 15 years or so. To the point of forgetting his little transgressions - everyone is entitled to a mistake or two.
And of course Glen McGrath is right up there as one of the best fast bowlers to be found.
And finally, Justin Langer. He did not set the world on fire in the way the other two managed to, but he was a great batsman and a lovely man who will be sorely missed.
Overall, I finally managed to enjoy watching test cricket - roll on the one day match this Friday.
