My commiserations on being well and truly trounced by Australia in the Ashes series - 5 NIL :D :D :D

Did anyone over there watch the destruction on TV? If so, did anyone notice the incredibly inaccurate and plainly wrong banner at the SCG proclaiming "There is no such thing as safe speeding"?

Every time I saw it I fumed a little more.

Back to the Ashes... maybe England can get some credibility back in the one day match next Friday

I'm pretty sure we still have a little credibility left over from last year, surely ;)

Sorry, cricket puts me to sleep. It would also appear to do the same to those watching it, everytime a camera pans around at those watching, most of the punters are snoring away. I think the only time they stirred was when Pakistan failed to turn out for their innings.

Well done to Australia though, sounds as though it was a well deserved win.

Glad some one brought this up, I was going to. Well done to the Australians.

It pisses me off how crap out international sports cretins are. Rugby players win their world cup and there are celibrations nationwide. They are crowned heros and have won f**k all since.

The football players get paid telephone numbers and don't even have the decency to give their all when they pull on an England shirt. As HRH Roy Keane siad of Rio Ferdinand, "you get paid £120k a week, play well for 20 minutes and you think you are a superstar." Well said sir.

Now cricket. 05's ashes even got me into cricket, now I sort of understand it. What a great series that was, so we all wait egerly for 06 ashes and they play like a bunch of plonkers.

England's sport people are far too busy writing premature autobiographies, endorsing tat and being celebrities to be bothered actually doing what they are paid fortunes to do. Don't these prats have any idea the support they get? Why the hell are they taking the women along? You're supposed to be winning competitions not going F*****g shopping, leave them at home. Whip the lot of them untill they win something.

Well, I'm Italian, and I don't understand what all the fuss is about over a piddly little trophy you only have to beat one country in order to obtain...

Yes Ross, afraid I have been having a few late nights watching the first couple of hours play each day :o

Seemed to be loads of advertising around the ground - "speed blitz" wasn't it?

Roll on the one dayers. Oh er, we're really c**p at one day cricket

Unfortunately we don't have enough rogues to cover that one... :D

I am not really a cricket fan but I have to say that there were several incredible sections of the series. The first I saw was when we won the second test, if I remember correctly, even though EVERYONE said it was impossible. England only had to hang in for less than 1 day, with a whole 10 wickets, to force the draw and we bowled them out - I was riveted to the last 2-3 hours from when I got home from work.

Then Shane Warne got his 700th test wicket in the 4th test and then his 1000th first class wicket (test and one day) in the 5th test.

Gilly got the 2nd fastest test century in the history of cricket in the 4th test - absolutely marvellous to watch.

Shane Warne got 71 in the first innings of the 5th test as part of a very wagging tail - mostly in 4's and 6's - more marvellous viewing.

A couple of fabulous run outs - one by England and one by the Aussies and an amazing stumping in the 5th test.

The umpires seemed fair - they disallowed just about as many appeals for both sides. :D :D

It was a sad day to see then end for 3 of our best players.

Shane Warne would have to be the most significant player in world cricket over the last 15 years or so. To the point of forgetting his little transgressions - everyone is entitled to a mistake or two.

And of course Glen McGrath is right up there as one of the best fast bowlers to be found.

And finally, Justin Langer. He did not set the world on fire in the way the other two managed to, but he was a great batsman and a lovely man who will be sorely missed.

Overall, I finally managed to enjoy watching test cricket - roll on the one day match this Friday.

Yeah I listened avidly to the BBC commentary and watched parts of the matches at my in-laws' house.

While it is true that England were not exactly on form, I think that the media should also have given more credit to the fact that Australia were just really good!

I'd have to agree, England were not really that bad, Australia was, and still is, rocking at the moment. We have a raft of really good players and after watching the 20/20 game last night we have got another few potentially great players coming into first class level. Basically we destroyed England again, grabbing the highest score in 20/20 matches to date and really making a mess of the English batsmen from the start. Our team is simply 100% in form and has an incredibile depth - we were missing 2 of our players for the 20/20 and still managed to rock. I would be surprised if there is another team anywhere in the world at the moment that could beat Australia at the moment (consistently that is).

Next year it might be a whole new ball game, who knows.....

As I have said before, cricket, particularly test cricket, has always bored me in the past, but with 4's and 6's being belted all around the ground it's hard not to enjoy the spectacle.

The run of form seems to have hit a speed hump.
