I know what you are driving at, but to my mind if the driver on the right is exhibiting all the road positioning etc that makes it clear to me he is turning left, then a flashing indicator may well be the final confirmation that I am looking for in order for me to commit to pulling out.

Enter the old clause ( often overlooked ) in the "old" highway code ( don't see it in the new) ---"if in doubt - don't" ---don't seem to be taught by the driving schools these days

What does seem to be taught is " push on regardless" - "you have right of way till forced to give it " etc.
It's just a matter of courtesy ( C ,as IG would say)

( SS - if nothing else - i can relate to the COAST agenda - used it for years , without realising what i was doing)

botach, it's not that I don't have a sense of humour, it's like this:

My six year old daughter has just discovered "jokes". She comes home from school, bounds up to me and tells me the latest gem. On occasions they are funny and I laugh. This is fatal, as she will then continue to tell me the same joke over and over again, on the grounds that if it was funny then, surely it must still be funny now!

It's just the same with the Malfunctioning-BMW-Indicators thing, the Lighthouse joke, the CD-ROM drive cupholder thing and so on. None of them fall into that elusive, ethereal category of "funny over and over again".

JT- Now i passed that stage some 20 + years ago , today i get that from my Granddaughter -now i get "GRANPA" from one and a lot of giggles from another.

JT, I am even dumber than I thought was possible. The link you sent me to The Hollow Men clip - I saw them at the Edinburgh Fringe 2004 in the Spiegle Tent and they did that same act that evening. No wonder it looked so familiar. I must have been out of it.

I know what you're driving at, but I can think of some (small, busy)roundabouts where noone would ever pull out if they waited for physical confirmation of where cars were going, as by that time the next car would be emerging. Anyone know the Blandford Forum bypass?

Also, empirically, I can only think of once when this has happened to me (on the Blandford bypass!), and vehicle positioning gave it away, whereas I see people turning left without indicating EVERY DAY.... not that I'm letting it get to me
