a colleague of mine has suggested a novel solution ... they should be forced to add another fixed sign at the bottom of the matrix sign, saying:

Advertisement Feature

Ooh, now there's a point....

Is there any way the ASA could get involved in this?

At what point does an "informational sign" become an advert?

Interestingly, although the machine registered that it had taken £4 from me, when I pressed the button for a receipt it only gave me a receipt for £3.50. It would be interesting to see who in law now has ownership of the 50p balance...

now some of the £4 is vat.
and If they only give you a receipt fot £3.50 you are unable to claim the vat back on your 50p "donation"

I think they might be breaking a tax law?

“It has never been the rule in this country – I hope it never will be - that suspected criminal offences must automatically be the subject of prosecution” He added that there should be a prosecution: “wherever it appears that the offence or the circumstances of its commission is or are of such a character that a prosecution in respect thereof is required in the public interest”
This approach has been endorsed by Attorney General ever since 1951. CPS Code

I don't think it's only the matrix signs that are misleading, about six weeks ago my traffic information cut in with the a local Birmingham radio station & informed me there was a three mile cue heading north to junction six. Damn was my initial thought until I realised I was literally three minutes away from said junction & proceeded past without even having to apply my brakes.

I hope they just made a simple mistake but the women actualy said that she was just looking at the cameras (traffic monitoring cameras I took that to mean) as she was speaking so I don't understand how she was seeing long cues when the traffic wasn't even slowing in the area. I wonder how many people used the toll on that morning for no reason. Strange but true.

Personally I have never used the toll & never will. I will always use the old road just out of general principal.

perhaps she was watching a video highlights of "The Hundred Best Traffic Jams" (it must be coming soon, surely, they've done "100 best" everything else).

Or she was watching Pot Black?

Now , I've often suggested a sign at Dover for motorists entering the country -"Welcome to the UK- we have several good car parks - the M1/m25/M6 etc"
