Nice choice of phrase!

I admit I prefer men...

but the point Hnady makes is true - sexual orientation doesn't matter within the subject we are all here to discuss (in a roundabout way). So naturally it hasn't come up. It doesn't mean that discussions about sexual orientation are banned on the board, it just means no-one's really that bothered.

I remember believing what our government said about being 20 minutes from a deadly attack.

I'm ashamed at myself for believing it but not as disgusted as I am with the two fools that fooled most/many of us into an unnecessary war.

I think both Blair and Bush should be tried as war criminals. (I bet that goes down like a lead balloon)

If you don't hear from me again 'they' got me

The likes of Abe Lincoln and Churchill must be turning in their graves.

Im not so certain you CAN speak your mind here, or anywhere Peter.

I agree. A little while ago, people on here were accused of being fascist and racist because they didn't like immigration and mentioned voting BNP.

Looks like the PC brigade have eradicated the right to voice one's opinion...

but at least the debate can be held, no debate on a subject like the BNP will go down without a few stong opinions being voiced. just shame it's only under the annonymity of the internet that people can express how they feel.

you've got to hand it to 'them'...whoever they are they've almost succeeding in brainwashing the whole of the UK.

Brown and Blair are always on about 'big tent politics' or 'a government of the talents' but this fills me with dread. I want 'punch and judy politics' I don't want consensus....I was debate and conflicting options.

I hate the soothing nannying tones that start sentences with things like....'i things we all agree...' I BLOODY DO NOT AGREE!!!

I want the conservatives to say 'we voted for the war because we think that getting rid of saddam was a good thing but we abhor the fact that you lied to the public about WMD'

I want Charles kennedy to say 'I smoked on the train because I f**king wanted to and the police should start catching criminals (except he voted for the ban)

Why can't a bbc reporter say ' but with respect mrs spokesman from BRAKE how does losing a child in atragic accident make you an expert on road safety'

Nobody and I mean nobody out of my large group of friends and aquaintances buys this high tax, climate change, don't speed, 6g of salt a day agenda we're being force fed so who on earth is voting for these idiots and why does cameron think he needs to ape it?

You're speaking my language

In politics, we seem to have a disproportionate amount of style over substance these days. It started with JFK verses Nixon. JFK was handsome and had a makeover before going on camera whereas Nixon was nervous, sweaty and not so attractive. Nixon lost and so the dawn of looks entered into politics.

I personally don't care who my leader is so long as he or she is good at running the country. Regan pushed his religious morals into politics, but politics and religion should absolutely be kept separate.

I got bent out of shape over the Clinton affair when I was working in America. He was a great leader who left the country in the best economic shape ever, but the influential happy clappies thought differently. I'm not saying I approved of what he did but quite frankly what he did in his private life, with a consenting female, is none of our business. I don't look to the prime minister for my morals, I just expect honesty and integrity from a good leader; I want to know what I'm voting for.

I think people today are so defensive you can't say anything even when it's evidence based, but if we don't dare to touch the untouchable how are we ever going to learn.

As a simple for instance - does anyone remember when there was a scientific study about 15 years ago regarding the maturity of young girls?

The study showed that black girls reach maturity much sooner than white girls, by a couple of years I think it was. Were people offended? You bet they were!!! You may as well have just called all black girls promiscous but duh... that wasn't what it was about.

Mine too, and I totally agree with you civil engineer, the thing is what do we do about it? I have many friends who think the same as you but, there must still be a majority of the voting public who are taken in by all the bull...t these governments spout.

not necessarily - the current government was voted in by a tiny fraction of those who are eligible to vote (can't recall the exact number, but it was quite a low turnout).

So the first thing we need to do is get everyone voting, that way at least the government could claim a mandate.

It doesn't really matter who you vote for, the politicians still get in. The civil service still wield most of the power, the government can change at the whim of the leader, but the civil service remains.

We need a "none of the above" option on voting papers.

If only handy, where I live I’ve only got the option of voting for one of the three main parties, as it is now I wouldn’t vote for any of them. In the local council elections I wasted my vote only because I voted for a party I knew wouldn’t get elected and, I only did that as a protest towards the Labour party and my local MP. :(

...and another thing.

Lowering the voting age to 16!!!!!!!!

What complete rot!

you can see the thinking though, get our kids, fill their heads full of climate change, and inspector calls (my most hated book), a little ex colonial guilt then march them down the polling booth before they've sat their GCSE's!

I'm far far too young to be a grumpy old man! Thanks Blair, you've prematurely aged me!

You've never had it so good. The white heat of the electronic information age allows people to communicate far more easily than they ever have done before.

But I don't see that it is not being put to particularly good use. Wat Tyler killed a tax inspector and started a rebellion. George and James Loveless, James Brine, James Hammett, Thomas Stansfield and his son John were transported to Australia for started a Union and a march on Parliament got them a reprieve. 30 or so people look at their screens here and moan.

Are you, as an incensed 'minority', actually planning to DO anything?

1. It is part of a quotation by Harold Macmillan "Let us be frank about it: most of our people have never had it so good" (While the 'white heat' mentioned is from another Prime Minister called Harold who said "The Britain that is going to be forged in the white heat of this revolution will be no place for restrictive practices or for outdated methods on either side of industry.")

2. You, who could be anywhere in the world, just asked me a question and I answered it. Others can also contribute. That is pretty good isn't it?

Hmmm BB's quote above is the reason i got banned from PH, because i voiced an opinion regarding the more distasteful aspects of a certain religion, one of those aspects was female circumciscion, yet another was the neanderthal practice of making women walk 20 feet behind...not to mention covering themselves fully.
I was duly binned and told to shut up and stop "offending" people, yet the question was never answered; " What about the offence it causes me?".
I can only assume that as an individual it was ok for me to be offended by such practices as demonstrated by what happened next.
My profile was removed, which i found odd coming from a group that had previously stated; " i may not agree with you, but ill fight to the death to defend your rights to say it.".
Needless to say, none did and the place is now a dead zone for the PC afflicted and infiltrated by the scamerati....all very sad.

Yep - get them young. McDonalds knew this years ago: Bright lovely colours, 'nice' grub, smiley faces and music. And when they are grown up, guess where they take their kids?

What carrot is the Government going to use to catch the young voter I wonder? (free condoms and mobile phones perhaps)
