Fantastic news mate. :D I was 'born again' three years ago and it was also on a VFR, although mine was a 1986 FG. What a fantastic bike and perfect for getting back in to biking. Two years later I bought a Aprilia RSV and that is also fantastic but in different ways. The VFR engine is something else. I hope that you and I prove the doom-mongers wrong about 'born-agains' adding to the accident statistics.

For a car driver to move to (or back to) bikes as we have done is very liberating, journeys become fun, traffic is no longer a problem, parking is easier, visibility is better. It amazes me that I didn't do it earlier (Oh that would be the three girls, the dog, the pushchairs etc.) For those of you that have never considered motorcycling, and millions don't, it's worth a thought, go on ,what are you waiting for?

Max

I too have a VFR 1998 VFR 800.

May I suggest that you register at www.bikersoracle.com/vfr it is the home of the unofficial VFR club with 6000 (mainly) UK registered members, about a 1500 are active.

Thanks for the suggestions there guys.

Who do you use for insurance as a matter of interest, Bennetts seem to be very popular.

MCE Beat bennetts in my case also very worth while speaking to Honda insurance.

The big key with bike insurance is to play them off against each other. I saw my original proposer insure me for 25% less this year after phoning around

Well done Rigpig. I was a born late rather than a born again. Getting a bike license at the same time as the grey hair started.

I currently ride a ZX6R and dammed good fun it is.

For insurance I use Virgin they seem to be the cheapest for me, but it's the same as for cars ring around and get a number of quotes.

As a rider you do need to be far more paranoid about car drivers don't assume that they will see you. Cos they won't . Try to never hear the
SMIDSY phrase.

definitely shop around for insurance. my renewal in july said 603 fully comp for 3 year old cbr600. googled uk motorbike insurance, ended up with 225 fully comp. 378 quid saved for 10 minutes work!

the stupid thing is my car is 291 fully comp, how is a diesel nissan almera more of a risk than a sportsbike?

Motorcycling is a fantastic hobby and I will continue to love it for as long as I live. However, I gave up biking (temporarily/ hopefully!) just over 2 years ago. There were a couple of reasons for it...

1. Although I loved nothing better than a blast on the old Honda Fireblade to clear the cobwebs away it was hard to justify having a top of the range sports bike sitting in the garage collecting dust whilst at the same time forking out for insurance, road tax and maintainence.

I do like to keep my vehicles in a road worthy and legal condition, it makes it so much easier for the scamera partnerships to collect their salaries that way.

2. Plain and simple. I never see home Mon - Fri and if this was to continue through the weekend I would have divorce papers served and lose touch with my offspring who is hopefully going to become the next Valentino Rossi!
