Now - cameras on fire - do they smoke and if so in a public place- who will be responsible??

Oh, Bloody Hell, yes! Think of the damage to the environment! About a kilogramme of CO2 per Gatso - that's the ice cubes in your JD and Coke gone from the Greenland Ice Shield! Warm drinks and a sea lion with a hot flush? The Tree-Huggers will hate us!

But they do anyway!

So bollox!

No! It is a celebration of an act of goodwill to society!

Burning down a camera is not a terrorist act. No people are harmed by it.

Running a "satfety camera partnership" is a terrorist act. That has always been the case. They can't put up cameras to cover all roads all the time so they hide them and say things like "drive below the magic number or you'll get caught".
Control by fear. Terrorism.

Obviously burning down gatsos in the manner described (rather well) in the article, cutting them down with cordless angle grinders, pulling them over with with a tow rope, superglueing the locks, flooding a talivan with a large quantity of water or cutting/melting the tubes in the road connected to traffic light cameras/truvelos/other road sensor based devices would all be very bad things to do and I wouldn't condone any of these acts. Even if the devices are owned and used by terrorists.

Terrorism is the use of violence for political aims.
Violence can be directed against people or objects.

Can you guys not see that this thread reflects very, very badly on SafeSpeed? We're supposed to be the voice of reason on road safety, aren't we?

In my opinion terrorism has to involve some terror...

Hmm my views on the acts of those who enjoy destroying speed cameras do not nesseceraly represent those of the SafeSpeed campaign. ;)

Ohhhh - so that's what's happened. I assumed the site had been pulled.

Surely there is a way around that? I've not tried, but I'll lay odds there is...

I think terrorism of this sort has to involve destroying things that people actually give a shit about and are likely to be near (such as their homes, place of work, their car, train, bus or tube station). I doubt anyone feels threatened or in danger from the people doing this.

Can anyone here honestly say that if they saw someone destroying a camera, they'd actually bother to report it?

I also like how the Sun article gives fairly good instructions as to how to do this yourself. :)

Don't try - it has a monitored block watched by both our mob and the Dutch. Tuf-Tuf caused over 40 million euros-worth of damage and are listed as 'terrorists' and the founder is in hiding (in Greenland, if you are watching, Tone...)
If you push a person hard enough, he will take notice...if you slap him, he will slap back!

Is this thread glorifying terrorist acts? If this upsets you it is supposed to be an ironic comments on tonight's news)

And if it isn't, is it just a bit childish?

Not at all, a terrorist act implies scared people and some level of terror/fear. Burning a camera would widely be regarded as quite funny. It may be civil disobedience or antisocial behanviour, but certainly not terrorism.

Ummm, honestly, I wouldn't! I'm more likely to stop and applaud them!

So people who put speed cameras out of action are taking away the fear they cause to the public, as I have to drive and fear loosing my driving licence, fear being threatened/robbed by our SPC’s, fear loosing my job, fear loosing my house because I cannot work and earn money, can it not be said these people are helping fight terrorism.

That seems like a reasonable conclusion to me Dixie.

I'm not personally driven by any sort of need to go around turning Gatso's in to toast, but if I saw it happening I wouldn't be in any rush at all to attempt to stop it from happening, nor would I be in any rush to talk to plod about it either.

If anything, I would probably toot my horn and give whoever is toasting the Gatso the thumbs up while pissing myself laughing.

The whole "safety camera" thing is based on fear.
SCPs are even buying devices from arms manufacturers.
It ain't good.
