Hi

I'm a newbie to this forum, not to others.

I would like to post here a link to the Guardian website their talkboards in the UK News section.

http://tinyurl.com/d9fth

The person who started the linked thread is, I presume, a cyclist he also a thoroughly poisonous twat (can I say that here?)

I would suggest that this link is brought to Mr Paul Smiths attention as I consider it to be deeply offensive.

If the very last paragraph isn't grounds for suing I don't know what is.

Blimey, what an idiot that thread starter is.

If that guy had really read this site he would have seen a page about speed limits and in fact it says that Safe Speed DOES NOT support the abolishment of speed limits, merely that people have taken their "usefulness" too far.

It really is sad and pathetic when people start calling Paul a "boy racer" or something stupid like that without obviously checking their facts.

And this:

Quote:
Paul Smith is a liar, fraud, charlatan and homocidally reckless speedophile.

shows that that guy needs help fast.

I've posted detailed rebuttals to smith's lies on his website several times.

Each time smith deletes the thread and blocks my email address.

I've spent the last eight years attending and investigating fatal collisions. Speed has been a factor in many. However, the vast majority have been caused by poor driving, lack of attention or anticipation. Many have also been caused by careless or druken pedestrians and cyclists.

I know of one camera site, where the 'statistics' produced to justify its placement included only one accident caused by a driver. The rest were down to other factors. The only fatality nearby was a druken down and out falling into the road.

I don't advocate speeding and if I see someone driving dangerously they get the full works. I also have no time for extremeists from 'the other side' who only speak from a position of complete ignorance.

Only if it's true. :)

I have never read such utter bull dung as I have just now.
These people have been brainwashed by this thoroughly inept government.
Has George monbiots work been peer reviewed, I very much doubt it, so whats his problem other than being as blind as a bat to the truth.
Did I read on this website that Safespeed advocates speeding or the removal of speed limits, or was I dreaming. Yes I was dreaming of course.
Who are these experts that do the peer reviewing for the government, carefully chosen people who will back the government up in any way shape or form, so they can get their knighthood.
As for the language used on the grauniad website, it is a disgrace, at least Paul has standards on this website. I think there are grounds for complaint just on that point alone.
The car that hit the cyclists, according to the police on the scene, was not speeding, but he was travelling at a speed inappropiate for the conditions, and isn't that what Safespeed is all about, using appropiate speed for the conditions.
Just how many points has Jeremy Clarkson got on his licence, and how many has Ladyman got.
How many has Paul got on his, probably the same as J Clarkson, NONE.
I wonder how many Mr Perfect Monbiot got on his.
Wouldn't that say something?

Paul, this just proves to me that at least you are trying to do the right thing, and you must be doing something right, to get that sort of tirade thrown at you, connected to a completely unconnected incident.

See their talk policy:

Surely grounds for a complaint. Doesn't make it clear how you complain, though.

Indeed. I'd found that, but thanks anyway. I have sent an email.

My guess is that it is the poster "wavydavygravy" from the cyclingplus forums, who appears to have an unhealhy obsession with PS and uses every opportunity to post the same old crud. It seems the readers on that forum are not being pursuaded by the rant, the fact it was posted two minutes after a previous post about the accident today is pretty low.

I get the feeling he’s also linked to suck_my_tailpipe.

But by whom? The posting by "getaway - 02:07pm Jan 8, 2006 GMT (#2 of 93)" looks to be a copy of the item on George Monbiot's blog, rounded off with "getaway"'s misspelled, libellous comment.

Note to Paul - Might be worth dropping George a line to tell him that the Grauniad is "hosting" his stolen goods.. :-)

Other than that, it looks like wavydavygravy is on form again. He either needs to be sued or a contract put out on him!

Later on in the foul-language-riddled commentary he shows his colours as spindrift by affirmimng he has been banned multiple times from here. Also one of the other posters refers to him as spindrift, so my guess is many of this lot are expats from C+

I see they've now deleted the thread.

I emailed them and told them that they'd get sued for libel and breach of (Monbiot's) copyright... Looks like they read it. :-)
