Quote:
SEATTLE -- A woman who has campaigned against speeding her North Seattle neighborhood says she is the victim of retaliation, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Kathryn Serkes parked her car on a corner to discourage speeding on her street in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood.

A hit-and-run driver smashed into the vehicle, in what Serkes said was retaliation for her anti-speeding campaign.

Last October, someone threw rocks at her 1989 Hyundai Sonata after she began her stand against fast motorists.

Serkes said Seattle police tracked down the hit-and-run driver who struck her car and they cited him.

Maybe she just parked it in a STUPID place.

It comes as no surprise to me at all that the woman is American.

But drivers should follow SafeSpeed's rule, which would have enabled them to stop, wouldn’t it? Now they have been cited. Were they driving too fast for the conditions?

In any case, her plan worked and she caught one of the speeders, only now her old car is smashed in - perhaps she keeps her decent car in the drive!!!

I'm not sure about the USA, but isn't it illegal to park on a corner here? or within 15yds of a junction?

May be the hit-and-run was just trying to move her car to a safer location?

Only a fool would assume that no car will ever be parked near a junction.

The default assumption for safe drivers is "don't know", i.e. we should act as if we expect a car to be parked near the junction, because eventually, one will be.

You're absolutely right. I doubt any of the regulars here would have hit her car.

But perhaps her campaign to keep peple to the speed limit made them think they must be safe.

I don’t think she was acting out of altruism – she wanted to stop speeding yobbos making her life hell. And if drivers generally react in this thoughtless reactionary way, then the next step would be enforcement, speed cameras, humps, a 20 mph limit and prosecutions. As they say in the states, what goes around comes around – this is great publicity for Kathryn Serkes!

It would be better for more of us to stick within the agreed limits - then they can’t use it against us.

USA, dunno, probably varies from state to state and depends whether there's a fish on the roof  . Here it's within 10 metres of a junction or or opposite it unless it's in a marked parking space (HC rule 217).
