Has anybody had any experiance of this company?

http://www.ddrwinntfs.com

The product seems to do what I want it to do (FRom the demo) but I am reluctant to paypall my money into the void without some sort of assurance that they are Kosher!

Alternativly, does anybody have any recomendations for similar recovery software?

D

I don't have any experience with that company.

I've used Cgsecurity's TestDisk in the past to great effect, and it's free. You might want to try that first before splashing out.

Until you've recovered your files, don't use the offending drive for any other purpose (especially as a boot drive).

As steve said -I've never tried anything of theirs ,and more importantly - as Steve said - don't put anything more on that drive .If you get a recovery program to try ,install it on another drive .

You could look on tucows.com or downloads.com for free recovery software - I've tried various ,some see lots of files ,but don't deliver ( or won't till you cough up)- some surprisingly have recovered files with little effort .Sometimes an ailing disc will give up data after a rest ,or once it cools down ,it it's gotten hot .

I've used Photorec a few times, it's main downfall is that it recovers too much.

Despite the name it recovers all types of files, it's best to go through the list with a fine tooth comb before you start. Don't select .txt files unless you really need to or you will end up with millions of files which can only be identified by their contents.

You will need an empty drive with plenty of space, this will recover lots of data. I would suggest having a drive or partition the size of the one you are recovering from.

I have never used the Windows version though, I always install it to an Ubuntu Live CD session and run it from there.

Best thing is it is free.

I've used Recuva with some success, it's free so there's nothing to lose.
Are you looking to restore files that were mistakenly deleted or has there been a failure on the hard drive?

If it's the latter I can vouch for Arax which I've used on a disc that failed due to overheating. It found almost everything on it and recovered it into useable files. (it's also cheaper than the one in the link!)

As has already been mentioned - don't use the drive for anything else until you've recovered the files you want as there is a risk that they may be overwritten if you continue to use it.
(Files that you 'Delete' aren't actually deleted from the hard disc straight away. The space they occupy is simply marked as available for re-use.)

From Norton 4.5 ( historians might recognise it ) -files e.g named dusty.doc are renamed ?usty.doc when deleted .

I had no experience of this company before, but I have used useful data recovery software which helped me out of troubles of losing important files.
There are a lot of data recovery tools, include freeware and shareware. And I think the one suits you most is best, my favorite is Wondershare Data Recovery.
When you find a good one, you can tell me as well.

I always found (as did many others local to us too) that Paul was far more able to extract lost data than many 'tools'. However finding a good computer engineer that truly understands what is going on is hard !
