There's nowt wrong with a Yorkshire accent!

Sixy,

Oh Dear, I shouldn't start on the Yorkshire theme.

Yorkshire philosophy - "Owt for nowt and do it for theesen!"

Yorkshire businessmen - "I didn't get where I am today!" (by going down South, poncing about, reading books, not shouting at everyone etc etc)

Nice countryside though, up in the Dales, I'll definitely give them that. :)

C. :)

I think just about all that is left of my accent is the correct pronunciation of bath and castle though ;)

Toltec,

You really need to hear it on a recording to be objective. Also an accent always feel less prominent if others around you have the same lilt. What I used to think of as a better class Yorkshire accent now sounds like Emmerdale farm. That's what going 'down South' did to me unfortunately.

C.

PS - Nice new software on this board. :)

Last time someone asked me this question my response was 'Buggered if I know'

Never really paid much thought to it...

I reckon that (in the UK anyway) there are now only two classes...

1. Those that spend all the money, ie politicians and "clients" of the state...
2. Those that pay for everything, ie all us poor b*ggers who work for a living. :-)

No pension fund Prof?

As for my class..? "None whatsoever" would be the best description. :-)

Occupational pension as per teachers (contributory, final salary, index-linked) - but I have no say what they do with the fund in terms of investment...the govt does that

Re the "Rich List"...

Interesting to note that the ones at the top who are getting seriously richer tend to be "foreigners" who have moved their bases to London as the tax climate in the UK is relatively favourable to non-doms. Our "Home-grown Billionaires" seem to be suffering a bit - in as much as, say, a reduction in your value from £4.3Bn to £3.7Bn could be classed as "suffering".

That would be no funds then.
Gov pensions, past and present, paid out of current income.
That would be why they're desperately making schools independent, hospitals trusts and everyone else mad ?
Look at the pie charts your local gov [usually] sends you each year to convince you [against the evidence] that they use your money wisely.
It's called the "pensions bomb".....their pensions, like ours [state pension] has no investment backing.
As long as the govs income goes up, the pensions are safe......which is why new gov servants get some of their income taken off them to "pay" for part of their pension....

I think it would be fairer to say the SUPER rich are etc etc

This should hardly be surprising though. After all who is it who bankrolls the labour party these days? You know, all those "Loans" and so on!

(What is more, ISTR that not a few of these "Donors" are essentially forign! He who pays the piper and so on. The Tories are no better! is it possible that we are in the mess we are in because the political parties, of all flavours, are putting the interests of their "Shareholders" above the interests of the British people??)

(Slight aside, how do you define "Rich" anyway??)

It's obscene but Im not sure what the alternative is. Capitalism is the unequal distribution of wealth. Socialism is the equal distribution of poverty.
