Actually is it "blatant sex discrimination"?

Here we have a private organisation the British Horse Society, which is probably over 80% women, going out of their way to do something for their members. Trailer Horse boxes are fast becoming obselete and the new breed of vehicle requires this sort of license to be held. Many of the BHS memebrs will work at a yard which has these boxes but they will need to bring in drivers to so it.

I think it should be pefectly reasonable for an organisation to do this if they so please.

HGV c is a class 2 licence (formerly class 3). over 7.5 ton. the licence you are referring to is a C1

while you are correct in this case Patch, i have missed the bigger point which is the fact that this scheme is not specific to this particular group

it is government funded and it involves 'skills for logistics' and clearstone training. there may be others that i am not currently aware of.

the facts:
women only
they must be employed within the trainsport industry
not only do they get their class 2 licence but they get an NVQ out of it too

the issue:
as said, it is blatant sexual discrimination (positive discrimination as i have been informed) funded by the government and associated with a select few training providers

to me it has political stunt written all over it but if comments are to be believed, it will backfire. the female truckers or non truckers who have commented find it patronising and offensive. they will confirm that i have no problem with a women driving a truck but i do have a problem with funding their training when a man in the same situation has no help available.

on the bright side, no one is above the law
"Somerset and Avon Police is being investigated by the CRE after reports revealed it had rejected 186 white applicants because its workforce was "over-represented by white men".
"

Yes, this is just what I do to understand if any given statement or action is discriminatory.

Just replace female with male, women with men, black with white, etc. and then see if the statement seems unfair or illegal. :)

Unless you live in the midlands, where it is the norm to see jobs (with a massive salary) advertised, using words like "must be from an Asian background or extremely fluent in Urdu"...

One of these days we'll see the words "applications welcomed from non ethnic persons ,as they are under represented in this area" (perhaps not)

I saw a job advert today placed by Hackney Council for IT staff for their "privatised" computer department.

The advert said they were a young and lively company ... looking for the following staff ...

Is this a clever circumvention of the age discrimination regulations? They aren't saying the applicants need to be as described but ...

Or to discourage older people from thinking about it - as they may feel out of place??? :(

Didn't really want to say that -but getting that way ---even the corner shops are now returning to minority ownership

diplomacy was never my strong point. i say it like i see it. some agree, some dont. i can accept that after all, what i say is merely my humble opinion and we all have the right to an opinion :D
