I watched the ITV news last night. All this week they are reporting from Antarctica about global warming. In between seething and shouting at the TV because of the rubbish science and bullsh*t, I heard our illustrious leader say even if the UK cut all its green-house immissions to zero, within 2 years China would have made up for the reduction.

So if this is the case then why the HELL are the British public being flogged to death by the Green Nazis?!

Surely we should be helping China to develop cleaner technology and improve things over there rather than worrying about what's going on here?

And as for the USA? Well they should know better. Maybe its time we actually did something about the country that has the money and the resources to massively reduce its green-house immisions yet chooses to do NOTHING.

A few weeks ago they countered this with the argument that whilst "Green Taxes" won't achieve anything the UK MUST lead by example.

Presumably an example that other countries can and will ignore (did someone say the US and Kyoto??) depending on the culture and economic status? It also gives Tony and Gordon an excuse to Tax the arse out of the UK public whilst sailing the good ship "Saving the Environment", and making up the short fall in the Governments budget.

It's quite a good idea to be at the forefront of these developing technologies though. If we in the UK have experience in energy conservation, renewable resources etc. and if it does all go pear-shaped we'll be in a better position than other countries who are relying on older technology/methods.

I'm not trying to say that we shouldn't invest in the technology - of course we should. The trouble is though, we're being forced not to use older technology when there isn't a viable alternative ATM.

However, our education system is now so poor at training budding engineers (even to the extent of huge numbers being functionally illiterate and innumerate) that we have little chance of being "at the forefront of these developing technologies".

Digby Jones was on the radio this morning making the point that unless we correct our education system then China and India will soon overtake us in advanced technology.

I guess they're working by the theory " Necessity is the mother of invention". Withdraw the old technology and a viable alternative will have to be found or people will go without. Possibly not the most "user-friendly" way of doing things, but guaranteed to get results!

(BTW - I'm not sure whether I support this stance or not, just trying to empathise with those in power)

Well, it was only a matter of time before that did happen, considering they both have such vast natural resources of raw materials and such huge population bases.

The only reason they haven't overtaken us yet is because the developed world is running out of developing countries to exploit to achieve "developed" status.

You're right though, there does seem to be some big faults with our education system.

If HMG was serious about being "Green" it would be giving positive tax advantages for "green" projects and products. But it doesn't. It's just become an easy method of raising additional taxation and introducing further restricitions upon a totally-bamboozled public.
