Hi all,

I've just seen a new Esso TV ad. It ends with the Esso logo with "we're drivers too" written underneath. Does this represent a real change in emphasis? I think so...

Trivia: Esso was originally "Standard Oil"; S.O. = Esso. Geddit?

I may be wrong, but I believe Esso have been using that for a couple of years. Still, a nice touch.

Is that right? I'm not a big TV watcher, but I recently put a TV in my office to follow news better. Apologies if it's old news.

It's amaizing how much crap TV increases Internet usage.

May be we can get rid of the TV soon. Save a few bob in tax...

I think the "we're drivers too" strapline was originally much longer. I can't be sure but I think I read somewhere that the original version ran along the lines of "We're drivers too but, because we work for an oil company, we get our petrol free and are therefore so out of touch with reality that we think its fine to charge you £5 a gallon for stuff that costs about 30p to make."

Other alternatives considered were: "Esso - We can charge what we like because you're too fat to walk," "Cartel, what cartel?" and, "Esso - the teat that keeps your Government fed."
