Stopped using that stretch since the daft limit reduction - now cut through Earl Sterndale and go parallel to the A515 to re-emerge just before Newhaven. Not quicker, but at least I avoid the tedium of having to drive down an excellent bit of road at an a slow speed, or drive at a sensible speed and...

Driver inattentiveness is heightened by boredom caused by being forced to cruise 100s of miles along lightly trafficed motorways at below the natural and safe speed. M6 and A74(M) spring to mind as do fairly remote stretches of the M4 and M180.

A more effective way would be to get rid of the tolls.

quite easy you do 30 in a 30, if you have a heavy right foot you go faster therefore the lamposts, cars stationary vehicles go quicker past you I wouldn't drive on a camera'd road with a speedo failure. Also the difference in feel with unfamiliar vehicles can cause concern until I've adjusted to th...

Money can be made from this, because you may be forced to buy this equipment and it be checked on MOT's! This is the most dangerous thing I've ever heard, not only because it will cause people to switch off mentally, it makes perfectly safe overtaking manouvres far more dangerous. I don't know abou...

In many years of driving, I've noticed there's a basic lack of understanding of human nature when it comes to many of our traffic laws. A classic case is putting mobile speed traps to scan cars' speeds immediately after a speed limit change. Other ones include setting speed limits far lower than the...

I travel through the M1 SPECS quite a lot and I am not surprised in the least that there is an increased risk of accidents with this sort of enforcement. There is an increased risk due to vehicles travelling too close, especially across the 2 or 3 lanes at the same speed. There is an increased risk ...

I agree with Steve here. However, I've found a good solution to tailgaters which works most of the time - you simply wash your windows, front and back, every 20 seconds or so. They quickly tire of having to turn their wipers on, and back off. Cheers Peter Never underestimate the power of the humble...

Why do drivers speed?

Because the speed limit's too low!

Interesting thread. Strikes me as a case of the insurance not being payed in an accident where the driver was exceeding the posted speed limit which rarely happens. Accidents involving excess speed can happen well within the speed limit in which case you will be covered, even if its your fault. I fe...

Hi Teepee. Exactly the same thing happened to me in Carrbridge south of Inverness quite a few years ago. never been there before - stopped off to visit the local shop. Headed out the village towards 'ness. the road turns round a left hand bend and heads across heathland - dead straight.T There's one...

Speed cameras on motorways and NSL dual carriageways are very worrying and must rank as the most stupid place to put them. Recently driving on the A1 everything was going nice and the road was flowing well. Just after it takes a sharp left turn after a roundabout(somewhere near Sherwood Forest - I'...

Could be worse - at least it's only a relatively short set of roadworks - and looks like they're doing 1 stretch and moving onto the next rather than the dreadful M6 J16-17 where 6 or 7 miles is coned off with 40 limit and specs protecting an often invisible workforce. Traffic permitting you can avo...

I people braking for speed cameras a lot when they're within the speed limit- occasionally emergency braking! They may be in the wrong for doing that but it's just another hazard these days. Often the speed limit is very poorly marked and not obvious from the style and nature of the road. They say y...
