Sorry for bringing up an old post But always wonder how they trucks get to this country in the first place, with defects, and running bent. Why arent they stoped in other countries for defects and ideally their own countries for running bent. Hear all the time about UK drivers getting screwed over i...

I’ve never had an airbag go off but I’ve heard people mention before the noise of them going off can damage your hearing. A mate of mine crashed his car at low speeds, and said the only injury he had was tinnitus for a week afterwards, but if he hadn't had a airbag would have no injuries. Don't some...

I must be getting old because i can see mpatons point of view. I was dead against changes to the old licence, i sat my full bike test on a Honda C90 and then overnight could ride anything i wanted. Trouble was at the time like a lot of others it wasn't quite so easy as that. I didn't have much cash,...

At a guess and i am by no means an expert. Tyres especially the type fitted to that bike soft compound like to be hot to grip properly. Like when you see race car drivers warming up weaving about to get the tyres heated. Cold tyres and giving it a bit of juice lost grip. I've done it on a 600cc spor...

I think we'll possibly notice a downturn in the number of accidents on new plastic bikes soon as the recession takes hold.Tarquin and Jocasta won't be able to afford to buy them new for a while. I know its terrible, Tarquin and his mates are good for creating spare parts for newer bikes and also go...

Notice that a lot of trucks are pretty slow these days it seems, espec night trunks on the M6. Dunno if companies are turning them down because of fuel costs, i occasionally work for Irish companies. Irish trucks north and south kinda notorious for having the trucks wound up, but even a lot of the i...

Maybe stricter now or situation different when i was doing my CBT everyone passed it. Saying that i sat my CBT years ago, when the licences were about to change, i'd be driving on the road before the CBT. I only really sat my CBT because i needed it to get my full licence which i wanted before it al...

It isnt really true we are not allowed in L3 of a motorway, we are not allowed in the outside lane if there is more than two lanes. So if its a 4 lane motorway we are allowed in lane 3. Ok a bit pedantic there, but seen some post a pic of a disgracefull HGV in lane 3 of the M6 at Preston where its a...

My instructor has said there is hardly a trucker in the land that will drive at 40 mph on national speed limit, single carriageway roads, mainly because it causes too much danger for other road users. It used to be, apparently, that the police did not enforce this crazy idea either as they could se...

Does sound interesting the electric scooter the initial £5K is off putting tho but does sound a good alternative for short distance travel, something i'd possibly consider if my commute weren’t so long. Your question about safety, i believe 2 wheeled vehicles are safe to use, even with the accident ...

Fair do's in your circumstance, tell them not to come at once. In my case i deliver pallets so drive into a huge shed and open curtains suddenly like he charge of the light bridage these forkies appear and my double decker trailer is empty about 10mins later, drive into next shed same again apart fr...

I've done it in a few jobs. Whats wrong with doing it lol I did a run where five of us went down to Middlesborough everynight and back. We would all leave at once, we would take a tea break half way down and half way back up. Don't see anything strange about that. Its like working in an office and i...

Yep, got some chain lube ready. I put too much on before, which is why the bike is so greasy at the back. Best time to put chain lube on is after a ride when the chain is hot, which means its expanded a bit and lube will soak in between the rollers. Put some newspaper bellow the chain incase some o...

I always jetwash the bike down at local garage. its quick and easy and can quickly get into areas like the swing arm get all the crud off and others areas where crud goes and is hard to get at. I've never had the jetwash take the paint off a bike, i don't see that happening unless you are trying to ...

We've got 08 Plate trucks, a couple of them. As an agency driver i was shocked to be one of the first to drive them. Unfortunatly they are MAN TGA 440's :( Usually at work i try and get a Volvo FH 440, most of the other drivers like the MAN just for the size inside compared to the Volvo's but now i ...

Its the speed limiter set too low that does it. It was a device introduced to make motorways more safer and has supposedly increased incidents of drivers loosing concentration and drivers falling asleep at the wheel. I drive arctics and mainly these days just do multidrop in central scotland, but ab...

Bigger problem being ignored by the government is foreign HGV's ignoring tachograph rules in the UK and being able to get away with it until a serious accident happens, leading to accidents like this.

Truck drivers have to wear seat belts they change the law a few years ago, unless of course your reversing or your truck doesent have seat belts.

Yup...on reflection I think my ultimate undoing was that my riding skills developed faster than my experience could handle. From what I can gather though, complacency and overconfidence is a life-long problem that goes in cycles. I can't say I have any personal experience of that cycle, as I did no...
