This is VERY dangerous! Remember that RTM (Regression To the Mean) is the major reason that speed cameras appear to reduce crashes, and it can work BOTH ways. If cameras are chosen to be removed at sites that have an unusually LOW number of crashes, then we will expect the number of crashes to INCR...

I found this puzzling Q+A, is a 20mph limit actually enforceable? Question: "People seem to be driving faster than 20mph in a 20 zone. What can you do?" Interesting answer from the Police: "Police cannot enforce 20mph limits or zones. However, it is unlikely that people will be drivin...

Stephen, Police Officer: good post and some questions: Is it true that Police try to breathalyse all drivers involved in injury accidents? If so are the readings recorded anywhere? This would mean that, even though under-limit could have high errors in the readings, this would give us an estimate of...

Yes, I saw the interview.
The Laywer was Oliver Mishcon.

Claire, the way you describe your phone interview, it seems it wasn't live. Can you say what date and time your phone interview was transmitted? I would like to see if I can find it to hear how it went.

But doesn't the highway code specifically state that you MUST NOT infringe even the tiniest law to assist an emergency vehicle? If so is the fault with the law itself, or just with the council applying it? It seems this Labour government is determined to make the "special relationship" so ...

Hi Mad Moggie, You say prog was on BBC1 on Wed July 23, can I ask what was it called and when was it on? And can you also remember about when in the prog this claim "KSI of the 70s-early 90s ... involved 80% stolen cars and that the addressing of making cars less easy to steal had HALVED KSI on...

Go to the DfT website and download the 2006 Contributory Factors (latest figures, 2007 not available yet). Remember these are "crashes" so the number of actual casualties will be higher (at least 1 per crash), You must also be clear what you are asking about. Do you mean "excessive sp...

Was there always this amount of bulchit everywhere? :? The newspaper title is "Council scraps speed cameras", but this is FALSE on TWO counts ! The council only PLANS to stop PAYING for their speed cameras. What happens to the cameras depends on what funding Swindon council eventually deci...

On the face of it, you're right. But it's NOT TRUE ! At least, not in the way they say. He didn't JUST get a 2 month driving ban, he was forced (should he want to drive again) to pass an EXTENDED driving test, AND was sentenced to a further "120 hours community service". And it was NOT a &...

Or a cyclist, for that matter! I suspect they have their facts wrong (yet again). A 70mph road would have to be a motorway or dual carriageway and, whilst there may be short sections of NSL dual carriageway that cyclists and pedestrians use, I'll bet they actually mean an NSL single carriage-way cou...

The synopsis says: "A focus on two very severe collisions on the A38 by vehicles allowed to travel up to 70 miles per hour, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and serious injuries for a cyclist". I wouldn't want to pre-judge the program, but it sounds like it may be a government propag...

And it will be hosted, yet again, by that role-model of a safe, conscientious driver, Alastair Stewart. Some reports claim that he has been done for drink driving, TWICE ! He allegedly got drunk, drove his car, CRASHED his car, ran away, and the Police then arrested him at his home. Any one see the...

A sensible measure or a knee-jerk reaction? We can't say because we aren't told the facts! I have a simple yet blatantly obvious question, though I've never heard it being asked or answered: "With current speed limits, how many children are killed each year outside schools by motorists who were...

It is a bit discouraging when Dusty asks a question, then seems to have disappeared ! Perhaps the problem here is that we've failed to answer it ? But then he's asked an impossible question ! Hi, Thanks for the offer but I'll be surprised if you'll find the time! If you've used excel before it's easy, here's an example, load this page: http://www.saferroads.org/camera-search/details.html?id=935 And copy/paste 2 pieces of data into excel: 935 Camera Type: Gatso Local Authority Slough Site...

The real answers to road safety ARE out there but, if you have a job and a life, it may take years of the odd day here and there to uncover the evidence. I tend not to get much response on here, maybe people are just busy? And there again, maybe we haven't come up with the answer he wants? It's a sh...

Interesting use of words (yet again) It says here "http://www.safe2travel.co.uk/more_info.asp?current_id=84" Quote "it has been proven that safety cameras make people drive slower and as a direct result, reduce crashes and help protect road users" They can't say "it has been...
