The document said that hot tea, coffee and low-calorie hot chocolate had "minimal" nutritional benefits. Of course they don't have nutritional benefits. They're basically flavoured water. People don't drink them for nutritional benefits, they drink them because they like them. What's the ...

Confirmation bias.

There are countless stories all over the news about misconduct by people with non-foreign names, you just aren't counting them.

Yes but approximately ten times less often as boys.

I'm no fan of energy saving bulbs, and find their light quality rather dismal, but:

This is number 187,367 in the tabloid list of "things that cause or cure cancer" and is almost certainly total bullshit.

What to prevent a bunch of emo kids from ODing on paracetamon because they want someone to give them attention. If someone wants to commit suicide, making them tour several outlets soon isn't going to stop them, it just makes things a pain in the arse for the rest of us. People who are suicidal are...

I believe that Brunstrom is correct, scientifically, about ecstasy. I'm not sure if I agree with him about drugs in general: I can see the arguments on both sides. However as usual he has approached the issue like a prat. It also pisses me off when ayone claims whatever idea they're proposing is 'in...

You are, of course, correct that it is the retailer's problem if the appliance dies within, I believe, 14 days (the periods vary for various purchases, but within the protection of statutory rights rather than warranty) since you have a contract with the retailer, not the manufacturer. The retailer...

If he requires a solicitor then he obviously isn't going to plead guilty. He must believe there is something wrong with the evidence otherwise he would have done the decent thing and pleaded guilty and offered mitigation and asked not to be banned as it would affect his ability to do his job. How o...

It's not just the CO2 either: buses are generally old and emit a particularly foul exhaust smoke, whereas cars are much more stringently controlled on what they can emit.

Actually I agree with the sentiments you express here. However, if we accept that the real threat of a terrorist attack does not warrant such extreme measures, we also have to accept that the security services may not latch onto a developing plot early enough to prevent it from being enacted. The m...

As I understand it, this verdict does not constitute precedent, and so by appealing they only risk it becoming precedent, if the verdict is upheld in a higher court.

Well exactly, my point is that by admitting this they are also admitting the whole thing is just a scam.

If they disagree with the 'decision of the learned district judge' why aren't they appealing the case? If they are accepting that verdict but continuing to prosecute other cases where the situation is identical, then that is fraud and abuse of process. They're clearly chancing their arm that a lot o...

Is it illegal? I would not have thought there was anything illegal about registering a car as a minicab, provided one did not drive it for hire or reward without a valid driver's badge. They would probably find they couldn't smoke in them anymore though :P Round my way, minicabs need a council road...

So, you just found another reason to drive more slowly and carefully when its dark. Not exactly, I was just able to put into words why I already do that. But I also realised that I might miss an unlit object no matter how careful I am, and that it isn't possible to understand why while still clingi...
