I should add, faced with somebody doing 40 in an NSL, a good driver who's in a hurry might end up making a bad decision too... Are you suggesting that we should all drive to the nsl no matter what the road or weather conditions might be, a good driver should not be impatient wether they are in a hu...

Things get more complicated when you've got other traffic, and cleary your going to force other (bad) drivers into taking bad and dangerous decisions if you travel at 40 in a 60 for instance, but then the same is true if you travel at 60 in the newly limited 40 (where other drivers are obeying the ...

Few years ago I had to go to Peterborough from the Midlands. On the A14 DC I was tailgaited constantly at 70 These are amongst the most dangerous drivers on the road & show a distinct lack &/or disregard for the basic road craft skills, it seems some drivers today are incapable of learning ...

Maybe that is the problem that too many novice drivers are used to driving on "modern" roads like dual carriageways and very straight urban link ways. I would agree with you there, which is why I suggested the driver training system they use in Finland (not as I originally put in my earli...

Not quite - last set of speed reductions were determined in this county by a few County council officers ,against the wishes of many county councillors and against the advice of the County police force . So no real consultation there then . I've heard of similar incidents in other areas. It 's not ...

So you're not so different to me then. :) I hope that I don't come across as arrogant and insulting, although I know I have thrown my toys out of the pram once or twice :whome: My frustration comes simply on a point of pure logic where my question/s are ignored or I get an illogical and evasive ans...

last year had most of the speed limits reduced along the route, a route I travel regularly. in the 10 years prior to the reduction in speed limits I could be guaranteed to see at least 3 - 4 cars in the ditches along the route throughout the the year. Last year & up to now this year I have seen...

Or more likely bridges and folks living under them . As in the troll population of the UK. lockinvar - perhaps it's time to ride out of the west ,and depart ,as a TROLL . I was expecting a comment like that from you, is that the only responce you have, "if you don't agree with me then let the ...

Well the only way we are going to get that to happen is to put all speed limits back to as they were in the seventies, where NSL was anything outside a built up area and then people will have to think about their driving more and adjust to a safe speed for every last yard of road as it is presented...

That is the exactly point I was trying to put across.

As I said in an earlier post, many of our country lanes are set at the national speed limit of 60mph, which means drivers have to "work it out" what is a safe speed for the road. So if drivers can do it then, and don't say these roads have not so many dangers, with blind entrances straigh...

Having read what your aims are I totally agree with them. maybe the forum should have been named "safe driving" rather than "safespeed". some of your reply's do make it seem that you advocate increased speeds. I think you should redirect people to the page detailing what your aim...

This bit has nothing to do with speed limits, really. You stated that if you were to pull out of a junction in a 30MPH limit, in front of a car doing 40MPH, that you would EXPECT a driver to be doing no more than 30MPH and so cause a collision by not leaving enough gap....this is not the actions of...

I've read the links supplied to this case and I can't see any mention of the driver doing 50MPH or even that he was over the speed limit. Dangerous Driving (what he was charged with) can occur at well below the speed limit. (He might have been concentrating on his mobile phone/C.D. Player/high on D...

It would appear that the trial of Peter Renshaw will have put a serious dent into your assertation that "speed does not cause problems", If speed cameras would have been present would he have been travelling at 50mph, I seriously doubt it, he seems to be the type that would slow down for t...

I agree with you on the fact that alert drivers that drive to the conditions of the road are safer, but many drivers appear to switch their brain off the moment they start their engine & fail to notice anything that is not in their line of tunnel vision. One point of fact is drivers who suffer f...

Why do some drivers speed regulaly :- answer because the chances of being caught are lower odds than the chances of winning the lottery. Speeders claim that speed cameras are there just to raise extra revenue:- IF YOU DO NOT SPEED THEN YOU PAY NOTHING FOR PASSING A SPEED CAMERA I advocate the increa...
