The E-stop is a bit of a farce these days with ABS. As mentioned above it is simply plant the brake (even if you stall you won't fail) and hold on. You get ample warning since the examnier has to look over his shoulder before carrying out the test so are already braced for it. In defence of a "...

Don't want to drag this way off topic but just wanting to enquire what everyone uses for screen wash. I'm not a big fan of the blue stuff and much prefer to use a bit of fairy liquid in with plain water. Recently i found that pouring in the contents of a bottle of spray glass cleaner and topping up ...

Referring to what you say above, why not persuade your neighbours to park some of their cars on the road? This will make the road appear narrower and less able to support the sorts of speeds you say some drivers are hitting, this should be particularly effective if you alternate sides. Adding unnec...

Can you please stop sending me trollograms by PM. I have no interest in conversing with you unless it is in an open forum and for the purposes of improving road safety. |

Abercrombie:- Why do you have to drag every discussion down to an attempted justification of dangerous and inconsiderate driving? I could almost see your point if you were only trying to justify your own driving but you consistantly try to defend "40 everywhere" drivers and other demonstra...

A few interesting points raised so far. Abercrombie:- Firstly i want to clarify that my post was not meant as a discouragement of overtakes. I probobaly overtake more than most but just wanted to point out that it is not a decision that should be taken lightly. Post subject: Re: SC Overtakes Reply w...

You REALLY didn't think that all new roads, and any newly altered roads, had expensive fibre-optic cables installed along their lengths to make matrix signs work....did you ? Why would they install high-capacity data links for low-bandwidth systems ? This is money talking here..... Well not to piss...

Untill then i would have agreed with you. However! With a closing speed around 30 mph it didnt really give a lot of time for him to see me approaching from behind if he was not doing regular mirror checks or distracted by passenger, kids, talking on mobile etc. All it takes is for him to see a potho...

I tend to class single carriageway overtakes as one of the most risky parts of driving. If done incorrectly it can result in a head on collision with a three figure closing speed. You can obviously control this risk by only commiting to an overtake if the road conditions, visibility, and capability ...

I used to run my ceiling fan even in winter to equalise the temperature in the room - no point in having hot air trapped up around the ceiling! I did manage to unbalance mine by repeatedly wacking it with objects when i forgot it was there! It ended up nearly shaking the house down :) It is amazing ...

I can see the problem with this setup. It is very easy to simply think "well turning right you should give way to oncoming traffic regardless of wether there is traffic lights or not" however, I can see the problem here. A lot of drivers are conditioned to the idea of both directions being...

Apart from the fact that i would assume that no signage is actually compliant and is not enforcing any traffic order, there is a line to draw between a "place open to the public" and "a road" Some laws are enforcable in both but some are not. I would reckon this is one of the une...

Please be more concrete: e.g. how fast should someone drive in the 40mph limit? You cant put a number on sefety - you should know that by now! For me to even try to answer that with a definitive speed is a waste of time and effort. There are times when it will be safe to exceed the 40mph limit and ...

I also believe that if you unable to drive at the 85th percentile speed for a given section of road due to con... |

On big engines such as large cargo ship proulsion engines the lube oil is never changed completely... |
