I've taken the tactical view that it's best to charge state agencies with the folly of having concern about almost nothing except speed as a serious road safety issue, rather than their being overly concerned by speed. Here in Ireland, we're supposed to believe, if we, the ignorant public, accept t...

I can't see this working. For one thing, free public transport by air would result in colossal pollution as well as further airport overcrowding. Seats might have to be booked months in advance. Free public transport by rail would cause such conjestion on the railways, that it would drive rail freig...

A woman rang in and said because she always obeyed the speed limit, she didn't NEED to indicate :? Well, I suppose that's the inevitable result of the powers-that-be concentrating on little more than speed, seat-belts and sobriety. "I don't exceed the speed limits, I wear my seat-belt and I do...

Slow drivers tend to be slow because they see the risk in the speed itself so dawdle along to reduce it and to 'feel safe'. Thoughts? I wonder why it is, then, that so many slow drivers don't see any risk in having defective brake lights! I seem to have a habit of finding such drivers on the road! ...

According to the radio, an academic, first name Ian, from Bath, did a recent study on how motorists behave in regard to urban cyclists as a function of whether they're men or women, or whether they're wearing helmets or not. He seems to have discovered that when he wears a wig, motorists give him wi...

Mostly other drivers are aware you're there because they see you. If your car is unable to represent itself visually to neighbouring traffic it MUST do so audibly. Approaching a tight bend or a hump-backed bridge, you're perhaps within a yard or two of another vehicle but the driver can't see you. H...

I greatly appreciate the replies that I've received within hours of my posting on the site. Yes, I have read quite a bit of the SS site. I know that the emphasis on this site is, in my opinion, balanced. When I expressed slight petulance on there being emphasis on speed alone it was in respect of wh...

It's good that there's a lot of emphasis on people driving at unsafe speeds. I can't understand, however, why this concern is not coupled with an equal concern for driving at unsafe distances with respect to other road users. In Ireland, most of the new penalty point offences have at their core a co...
