I used to move out more to the right and sometimes put my arm out to indicate "do not overtake". When it was safe to do so I would move over towards the left then wave the vehicles on with my right hand to overtake me. This usually was only a few seconds later. Often I had the best view of...

How will you be helping? By raising money?

Not sure that is what autistic people need. Some protection by law might be more useful.

Not sure what they mean by "most roads" and "major A-roads" and how they will enforce that? (Will they have 60 signs on the ones that retain that limit or new 50 signs on the ones that have been reduced as an NSL sign will be ambiguous). If they can at least make it 50 throughout...

They have fairly recently switched off one useless traffic light. On the A1 Archway Road north-bound, there is a bus lane and lanes for the main traffic. At one point there was a traffic light supposedly there to allow the bus to merge in, but the bus-lane continues way beyond that point anyway so i...

Forum: Cycling   Topic: Why do "cyclists" hate cars so much?

Maybe cyclists hate that: 1. Cars will often take up every inch of roadspace in a jam and leave cyclists no room to get through yet 2. On an uncongested road where the car would be moving faster they are intolerant if a cyclist is delaying them and will try to force the cyclist off the road in order...

I feel that at least all the bus lanes that are currently available for taxis should also be permitted to motorcycles. Bus lanes I would remove or reduce are those just before traffic lights or junctions where traffic is forced to use the right hand lane then pull over for the junction (because the ...

I was actually referring to slow-moving traffic according to the highway code where left-side overtaking is permitted but they told you not to weave.

Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake Is not worded as "you must not" so it's advisory, not law. How many lane changes would be considered "weaving" anyway? Is even one, one too many? Of course the danger of changing lanes is the possibility of a motorbike (or even pushbi...

In free-flowing traffic cyclists should just use the main lanes and motor vehicles should move out to over take them. In congested traffic, cyclists should be given a safe passageway through the traffic. How about |BB|C|RR| where B is a bus-lane, C cycle-lane, N regular traffic. Actually I have made...

No, I believe that this is precisely why many LAs put them by bus stops in the first place. They stop other vehicles passing the bus, permitting disembarking passengers who might want to cross the road to use the 'island' as a refuge on which to wait until traffic coming from the other way is clear...

Answering the original question I would probably go for upgrading major trunk roads to all be at least D2 (dual carriageway, 2 lanes in each direction). I would probably make the speed limit on other good single carriageway roads 50mph for all, i.e. for HGVs and cars alike. I would bring in laws res...

I would be happy for them to be used for tracking in the case of fighting crime but there should be a proviso that they are not admissible by law with regard to speeding offences. A system that sends out a "beep" warning when you are over the speed limit but doesn't actually slow you down ...

They are planning to bring in road charging. I don't agree with this scheme but the tracking devices could be useful for other purposes in cutting crime. Of course you can't beat every case but certain devices that could be put into new cars might certainly significantly cut car-related crimes. I do...

Yes they are just as lawful regardless of their size. I am not sure if a "turn right" sign at a traffic light also carries a "no U-turn" restriction with it (or is a U-turn just a right followed very quickly by another right?). If a U-turn is forbidden, why is there sometimes an ...

My mother reached 70 this week and had to renew her licence but didn't have to take any tests. She agrees that re-testing at that age should be compulsory, every 5 years. I would not disagree to regular retesting for everyone.

This incident was on Crimewatch this week, and reported in the papers. She is now out of a coma. It would appear this gang mugged 2 others the same day (on foot) and it all ended with one of them crashing his bike around Britannia Junction (Camden Town). As for your laptop, probably the best idea is...

I pass on the right hand side of them sometimes - when I'm on my bike overtaking stationary traffic that has not given me any room to pass on my own side. Personally I find traffic islands the biggest problem for cyclists. They are there as a refuge for pedestrians crossing the road and also are put...

I have Aspergers. The one thing we need more than anything else is simply tolerance of our condition and acceptance that we don't act socially exactly the same as everyone else. I think I may have a milder form of it than others but I generally live a normal life.
