The problem with this case is that even if it is won all the European Court will do is issue a declaration of incompatability. They cannot strike down the UK law and the chances are the Government will reword the legislation so that speed cameras are exempt.

I nearly ran one over the other night because I was turning right at a T junction on an unlit country road and could see nothing approaching from either direction. Just as I started to move forwards a cyclist with no lights moved into my headlight beams in front of me. Fortunately I was able to sto...

S172 defence works if you can show you have taken all reasonable measures to identify the driver.

How do you know he wasn’t simply targeting westbound traffic? Because they always film the front of the car to stop people using the don't know who was driving defence. So long as the operator and equipment has clear line of site of the target throughout the measurement period: yes. But with two la...

Scamera Van on the Clive Sullivan Way in Hull parked on a grass verge on the west bound carriageway front facing east. This is a dual carriageway Said van was shooting out the back, across the carriageway at traffic east bound. In order to do this it was having to project accross the traffic heading...

Posting from Leeds. Tried to stick to 70 on the way across - generally managed to do so apart from once or twice when I needed to overtake traffic. Doing 70 posed some interesting problems - the level of skill required was substantially lesser then doing 85/90 and I quickly found my attention wander...

Why not teach childrenhow to cross a road safely rather than...... my thoughts exactly. in Hull they redid a street (newland avenue) and on the radio they said it was because a lot of school children have been in accidents on it. My thoughts were just as yours. -not to mention that theyve made the ...

That would be a winnable case. If the speed limit isn't signed in accordance with the regulations then the law say you cannot be convicted. And it wouldn't fix itself when you reached the repeaters. The absence of the terminal signs (at the entrance to the limit) is a fatal error for the entire spe...

They have had an extremely negative effect on driver behaviour since installation a few months ago, drivers going at 40 are now common place obviously unaware of what the NSL sign means. Tailgaiting and inappropriate overtakes are going to kill someone unless these cameras are removed asap. Heard t...

Noticed something tonight. They have recently been reducing speed limits near my house all in the name of road safety. Well, there is a junction where a 60 joins a 40 and there is no sign at this junction to inform the driver that they are entering a 40 zone. The first 40 repeater is several hundred...

Why is that when we get the book thrown at us by police on the continent but there is very little done to enforce traffic law on EU nationals driving in this country?

A multitude of speed cameras have recently been installed on the road from Hull to York. Interestingly and rather annoyingly these have sprung up not on dangerous bends or in residential areas, but on the few open stretches where it is safe to overtake, oh and a hill where there is a designated over...

"The report also calls for speed limits to be dramatically cut or rigorously enforced on motorways and trunk roads."

I can't seem to find any particular law against taking photos of a talivan or scamera. I guess that the officer in question would probably try and stick something else on you though.
