Sorry. The laser braking is the system that measures the distance and applies the brake if you get too close. Nightmarish idea IMHO. Regardless of the tyres, you would need radically different systems to do it. It would never happen. Anyway, the tyre sales issue is not that good an indicator. There ...

There was much more I could have said. Take into account the size of the braking systems involved. My old Renault discs were about 19" diameter and 1.5" thick with pads covering 1/5th of the diameter. The drums on the drive axle had, if I remember correctly, 10" wide shoes on 22"...

In 1999, eh? Since then the penalties have become more severe and the limit is 0.8. Moreover, there are 30 million people in Canada and the place is huge. You can fit the area of the UK into Manitoba two and a half times over and there are 1.5 million people in the entire province. The chances of be...

Italian speeders aren't the problem, italian psychos are! Same for portuguese, spanish and belgians. I don't think UK safety is as good as it was. I understand the UK has slipped to 4th place now in the safety league due to the manager of the team selling off many of the older players to Canada, Aus...

We have trailer spikes over here. This is a column mounted lever which puts air to the trailer only. You would imagine that this would make the truck easier to pull straight in the event of a jackknife. It sort of helps if the roads are dry and clear, but I have had the trailer come around on me a f...

You are being a little simplistic about the penalty system for DD. The limit in the UK is far higher than most places, and the penalty is generally greater. They have a saying here, "Buzzed driving is drunk driving" and they are right. As the Police Officer said, those who say the penalty ...

ABS is standard on many makes of truck, but i don't know if it is now a "standard" . trailer brakes locking up are usually a sign of a faulty load sensor on the trailer. The load sensor determines what pressure to apply to the actual brakes on application of the brake pedal. Its a simple ...

I can remember it pretty much. It was hells cauldron then and just got worse. Wherever they build a bypass or ringroad the motorists use it for short local hops to avoid a set of lights between their house and the school and the roads become congested. Then some bright spark buils an out of town sup...

Try this one then. My hometown in Cornwall have been bickering about a bypass for 30 years now. Nimbys on one side of town say it should go the other side, while Nimbys there say it should go the other side. The net result is that they are still arguing. There is already a road which bypasses the to...

As was said, they have amber flashing lights which warn motorists they are going to stop, then red flashers to signal the stop itself... |

As I said, I am not slighting women drivers. My wife is a good, cautious driver. She got used to the different driving over here in short order, and the weather is more extreme here. It was just an observation, and I was wondering if the insurance companies are a little anti-man. Cross over at 38, e...

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I am not sexist at all. This is just an observation based on personal experience. Women drivers have fewer accidents so their insurance is cheaper than mens, right? OK. Try this. My wife can, or could when we were in the UK, get her insurance nearly 30% cheaper th...

The thing is, drivers aren't what they were. A few years back there weren't many Eastern European drivers based in the UK. Now there are thousands. With the enlargement of the EU there are now 10 more countries who can send their trucks here without the need for clearing Customs so moving goods has ...

Thankyou Rixxy. To say give way is different to give priority is sheer nonsense. The person who called my abilities and qualifications into question is wrong. If anyone considers that merging at 70+mph between two trucks, doing 56 mph, is safe then they are deluded. They will have to pull out into l...
