Here is what one of the scientists shown on the swindle programme has to say about his contribution:

And if you're wrong and the temperatures do rise, I imagine you will be volunteering yourselves for punishment?

If i were to misread a speed sign (say I did 40 in a 30 zone) and get caught by the 2 or three cameras on the same half mile of road, am i liable for all three fines and the full 9 points? Surely I have commited only one offence so would only be liable for one fine and 3 points? Wouldn't getting fl...

In a similar situation (heavy traffic) I got beeped at for blocking an exit on a roundabout. The next roundabout I got beeped at by the person behind for leaving a gap. You can't really win sometimes

I save a significant amount of fuel compared with most other cars on the road simply by not driving with half a dozen england flags flapping out of the windows.

I think it comes back to setting the bible in current cultural context. Which of course is necessary if it is to mean anything to our modern lives. The danger is when it is applied in such a way as to reinforce cultural prejudices from 2000, 1000, 500, 200 years ago, and religious dogma is applied t...

Not directly relevant, but I'm reading a book at the moment which describes how some of the inconsistencies in the old testament arise from the amalgamation of two main texts, a 'Yahvist' and a 'Sacerdotal' version, thought to have been written a few centuries apart. These were inercut, sometimes in...

I find I sometimes drive worse if I'm thinking about it too much. A case of paralysis by analysis maybe? There's often too much going on to give though to each specific action. It's similar in some sports, you often find you play at your best when you hit that zen like state of heightened awareness,...

The Red flag may have been taken down but believe me the 'Green agenda' flies from the same mast! and It looks like suceeding where lenin failed! Are you suffering from a bit of a 1960s commie paranoia hangover or what?! It's easy to paint those who you disagree with or who challenge the status quo...

Some argue that climate change researchers could jeapardise their funding if they come up with a null result. I'm not convinced by this, though of course healthy scepticism is an essential part of scientific inquiry. Incidentally, I don't believe the tree ring studies dodged the solar activity quest...

They effectively make the road more dangerous, in order to force people to slow down, which is extremely wrong headed IMO, suggests we have lost sight of the reason we have speed limits in the first place. I know those ones on the A559 all too well Peter, though I can't see the picture. What benefit...

As was pointed out in an earlier post - all things being equal (two identical cars carrying identical weights begin their journey from the same point at the same time, both accelarate at the same rate but one settles at a speed 10 MPH higher than the other...) there is every possibility that the fa...

T2006, that's why I qualified what I said with 'all other things being equal'. Yes there are many, many other factors at play, road type / conditions being one, but I don't see how you can wriggle out of the basic facts, without resorting to some highly convoluted arguments. Are you saying the roads...

No matter what your views on cameras, I don't really see how there is any getting away from the fact that, all other things being equal , a faster travelling speed increases the likelihood of a collision, and increases the severity of a collison should it occur. Our visibility should always be great...

I would have thought that the location where a friend or relative has died in a horrific manner is the last place you would want a lasting memorial. This suggests they are (rightly or wrongly) doing it to try to prevent it happening to someone else, or perhaps this is being done on their behalf. As ...

An interesting point is that standing on the pedals requires you to select a gear at least one higher than you would use sitting down on the same climb - scientists, please explain!! Well I think the explanation is each down stroke allows you to use your bodyweight as well as legs, so you can push ...

I don't have any racing experience, but like to think of myself as a good hill climber, having spent much of my teenage years cycling round a particularly hilly part of West Yorkshire. I think a lot of people are slightly defeated by the psychological aspect of a hill looming in front of them. Some ...

Missed that one, but I have noticed this type of thing happening more and more. Classic case being the animal rights extremists. You had a bunch of people doing stuff that was already illegal (vandalism, blackmail etc.) and they responded by banning peaceful protest. Another example was when they ba...

I understand some employers running car sharing schemes have a 'Guaranteed Get You Home' policy, where they'll pay for a taxi in the event of an emergency.

For people like myself who work in business park type thingies, flexible working hours are pretty much essential - it would be chaos if everyone worked 9-5. Unfortunately such developments are often built without any consideration to providing public transport options. At least they've taken the ste...
