This video make me realise how very unlike normal road hazards these booby-trap bollards are. A driver with well developed hazard perception would have no reason at all to scan for a hydraulic jack rising out of the road. Perhaps... However, my hazard peception tends to notice huge LED no-entry sig...

I believe either is fine. They used to terminate them with an NSL sign ages ago, but it's been slowly replaced with "end". Though some of the smaller repeater type of signs ni the central reservation near me still show NSL. I dont think theres any difference legally. Incidentally, the M42 is aprt of...

Near me theres a small luminous yellow sign on the central reservation of a three lane dual carrigae way. Having peered at it for a bit, I've determined it sayd something like "x people were killed here last year. THINK!". Or similar. Stupid.... Distract people from looking at the road whilst approa...

I'd like to see somethign similar, but how about something on your dash telling you what the current speed limit is, that perhaps flashes when you exceed it?

I suppose that speed limiters would confirm one way or another whether speed does kill.

My brothers misses was gatso'ed in germany i think. Think it was when entering a town, they dont actaully post speed limits, the fact there's a town sign implies the limit. She never received anything through the post,

Hi, Driving back from Stoke today to Manchester down the A34, I must have driven through an area in a 30 that had a camera every 100 yards or so. All this made me do was watch my speedo, which made me feel really unsafe. I dont like not knowing what coming up. Anyway, which is your most hated camera...

As said earlier, it is a situation that should be covered as part of learning to drive, as the number of people who react by instinctively stopping in the path of the very vehicle they are trying to assist. Yup, remember in one of my lessons, copper wanted to get through on a narrow street. Paniced...

In practice, it would be impossible to introduce any kind of jaywalking law except in zones (maybe in city centres) where very frequent pedestrian crossings were provided, and even then it would be effectively unenforceable. Then how does it work in Germany? No-one, and I mean NO-ONE dares cross at...

happens all the time to me, what actaully scares me most, is when somehow, a curve has been engineered so that the angle of the bend is in a perma-pillar-blindspot, and I'm forced to lean over to the passenger side to see.

regarding bikers wearing bright colours, as a [car] driver I'm more than happy for them to also leave their lights on full beam. Never really bothers me, and I see them more out the corner of my eye in the rear view than i no doubt would normally. Especially in slow moving traffic where people tend ...

Well, A camera has appeared near my road junction as its an accident blackspot. Which I'm not in disagreement with. However, having lived here for about a year now, I've seen about two or three crashes. I'm assuming at least one fatality judging by the plastic remains of roses tioed to the railings....

k, I've been messing around with the "quote" button for ages and have given up... How are you supposed to insert into a double quote? Anyway, as you say, I didn't really think my minimum idea was remotely workable... was just something to throw in the pot if you see. Perhaps some sort of "middle lan...

I'm under the impression that most scientists think global warming is a myth, and is simply perpetuated by the greens (and the daily mail).

Though I'd go out on a limb here... I've been debating this with myself for some time, but what do people think of the idea that ll motorways being variable speed limit? By that I mean its inherantly unlimited, and only limited by signs a la M25. For example, in the clear at 4am Monday morning, driv...

same here mike. I've definately made mistakes, and I'd bet that eferyone does. It's a process known as 'learning'. Though in some cases, I've definately noticed other drivers 'increasing' my mistake by being tossers... eg, turning left onto a dual carriage way, car coming from dead on turning right,...

maybe one way would be 'jay walking' charge if within 10m of a crossing or something. As if I hit a pedestrian, even if they are dancing in a road or whatever, its my fault for not seeing them...

Fair point regarding kinetic energy, but that implies that the faster the speed the more dangerous the road. How then are motorways the safest roads, and yet small 30mph (or 20?) roads more dangerous?

i believe all raods with lights are by 'default' a 30, with local councils have to de-restict them to other limits.

Though I could be talking crap....
